Visit to learn more about parliament
Worcesterians who are part of the local Community Works Programme visited Parliament to learn more about how it works.
The local Community Works Programme (CWP) in the Cape Winelands District has requested support from the Government Communications and Information System (GCIS) on educating and informing the CWP participants in the Cape Winelands on various topics, says GCIS spokesperson Peter Titus.
One of the topics of interest was on civic education information, with a particular focus on how government functions interdependently.
GCIS, in partnership with the Cape Winelands District Municipality and the National Parliament Public Education Office, made the trip possible.
The group of “eager to learn” participants received information on the flag, national symbols, the law making process, how municipalities function, the spheres of government, and how they function interdependently, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
The excursion to Parliament itself was funded by the Cape Winelands District Municipality.
The educational excursion to Parliament answered questions participants had, and which they posed during the work session held. Participants’ perceptions of Parliament were changed irrevocably by the experience, according to Titus.
