Casino marks Mandela Day
Several Sun International properties, including Golden Valley Casino in Worcester, did their bit to feed local communities in need through their contribution to Rise Against Hunger this Mandela Day, 18 July.
Golden Valley General Manager Keenan Bergins explains the holding company contributed RIO 000 towards food packages that will be distributed to those who need them most.
“This year we’ll send out food packages, which equates to 3 456 meals,” he said. “They need this year has been amplified by the devastating effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has shattered lives and economies across the globe. Now, more than ever before, let those of us who can help do so to make a difference.”
Nelson Mandela International Day, which fell on a Sunday this year, has grown into an international celebration in honour of late former President Nelson Mandela. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009. The first UN Mandela Day was held on 18 July 2010.
Golden Valley’s beneficiaries will include the House of Mercy, which is located in Roodewal and Kamvalethu Care Centre at the Thusong Service Centre in Worcester.
Rise Against Hunger also secured support from Mountain Mill.
