Fit2Run athletes shine
On 24 June the Fit2Run athletes from Worcester sat wrapped in blankets while they waited for the 10 km Correctional Services race in Paarl to start. A little while later, these athletes would take the first seven spots in the race
These athletes are all from Avianpark and Riverview, two areas that are rife with gangsterism.
Yet, instead of letting this impede them, these athletes excel.
According to Norman Ontong, their coach, all of the athletes were extremely enthusiastic before the start of the race. “I was surprised when our athletes made history by taking the first seven spots in the race,” says Ontong.
“Virnita Africa, Meagan Swanepoel, Veronique Visagie and Ronelda Velem are becoming a formidable group. Two weeks ago they won the 10 km race in Bellville and in Paarl they also ran away with the win.”
Their former teammates, Vernoschka Abrahams, Sharlan Boer, Jackie Goliath and Ileana Dreyer were also an intimidating combination. They are following in the four’s footsteps. They were victorious in all their respective age categories.
