The Buffalo Gorge Eco Adventure Centre – hiking trail
The Buffalo Gorge hiking trail offers 4 trails namely the white, orange, yellow and blue trails. More than 80 different species of magnificent trees can be spotted.
The white trail covers a distance of 12-15 km and offers you an awesome opportunity to explore the different ecozones on the farm. The trail cuts through part of the lush indigenous forest, past fascinating rock formations and across several shimmering streams. The trail also leads to the edge of a deep gorge known as Adventure Valley.
The torrent Selon’s River cuts through this scenic valley with its rapids and waterfalls. Enjoy a sumptuous picnic beneath the thick cover of trees.
The orange trail is a 1,5 hour walk through the indigenous forest and identifies the different tree species. The yellow trail takes approximately 3 hours to complete and reaches a magnificent shimmering waterfall. The blue trail offers views of beautiful bonsai trees, wonderfully shaped boulders, and waterfalls.
Along this trail is a 50m abseiling cliff for those who would like some additional excitement.

Ama Poot-Poot Hiking Trail
The Ama Poot-Poot Hiking trail allows one to hike whilst admiring the awesome game in the area. It is situated in a beautiful game reserve and offers two circle routes of 13km and 6km. Enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of this reserve with 13 species of game. The trail also crosses rivers and leads to a glistening 10m high waterfall. Excellent overnight accommodation is available.
Situated on a private game farm in the Uitvlugt area between Belfast and Dullstroom, just two hours from Johannesburg /Pretoria.
The two one-day circular trails consist of the Reedbuck trail (13 km) and the Trout trail (6 km). They cover ground along mountains with lovely views, ravines, river crossings, mountain streams, wanders past lots of game to a 10 m high waterfall, rock pools, interesting rock formations, and trout dams. 19km over 2 days, or just do one trail or the other – they are both circular trails that lead back to the base camp. Day 1 (Ribbok Route), 13km Day 2 (Trout Route), 6km ACCOMMODATION The Groot Poot Camp – a big, well maintained farmhouse for 24 hikers, 2 open plan bedrooms (12 beds each) Lounge with a cosy fire-place for cool Dullstroom winter nights. Ablutions: 2 separate bathrooms: hot and cold showers etc. Big kitchen with cooking utensils, 3 x 2 plate gas burners, fridge and wash up area. Mountain bike trails – bring own.

If you’re longing to find that perfect close-to-nature spot, then Ribbokkloof’s hiking trails are just right for you. Our trails are all Green Flag accredited, meandering beside the mountain streams and rapids in an area rich with flora and fauna.
Ribbokkloof offers two types of hiking routes: network or circular. There are two network routes of 9.5km and 6.7km respectively. Our circular route is a two day hike (Day 1 – 9.5km and Day 2 – 6.7km) leaving from Stinkhout Chalet with an overnight stop at our rustic yet comfortable trail accommodation hut.
