Indoor Google Maps arrives at Highveld Mall

Highveld Mall is thrilled to announce its recent work with Google Maps to enhance the shopper experience by offering Indoor Google Maps!

From the palm of your hand, shoppers can easily identify specific shops, ATM’s and bathrooms within the shopping centre!

Sandra Vanderwalt, Manager of Mpumalanga’s Biggest Mall, has been working directly with Google for the past few months to ensure the latest Google Technology is made available to the community of Witbank and visitors from surrounding areas who visit the mall.

Highveld Mall is one of just 12 Shopping Centres in the country and the only Shopping Centre in the Province to have the mobile app available to consumers.

As Mpumalanga’s leading Mall, we always strive towards enhancing the shopper experience for the thousands of visitors we serve daily. When we first came across the roll-out of Indoor Google Maps in South Africa we knew that this is something we absolutely must make available at Highveld Mall, said Sandra.

She added that the introduction of this technology in Witbank directly supports Highveld Mall’s consistent offering of a superior shopping experience and was an important platform to meet the needs of visitors as well as exceed their expectations.

With indoor Google Maps, visitors can spend less time searching for building directories and more time discovering new points of interest. Simply zoom in and out of a building and go floor to floor with indoor maps.

The mobile service permits shoppers to have a real-time view of their exact location

Detailed floor plans automatically appear when you’re viewing the map and zoomed in on a building where indoor map data is available.

The familiar “blue dot” icon indicates your location within several meters, and when you move up or down a level in a building with multiple floors, the interface will automatically update to display which floor you’re on.

All this is achieved by using an approach similar to that of ‘My Location’ for outdoor spaces, but fine tuned for indoors.
