Rulers of their own world
Try to picture a lotus flower, so delicate, so beautiful, and stretching out its petals to find the sun.
Now picture one of our little fighters shackled every day, living with severe cerebral palsy. Not being able to open a hand to wave goodbye, not being able to uncross his legs. Every limb is stiff, it is painful and he is unable to move to where he wants to go.
Now imagine him on his horse, the old granny Friesian mare rightfully called Grace. She greets him at his wheelchair, slowly bows her strong, dignified neck towards him. He giggles with excitement. She allows him to straddle her sofa-like back. The tension melts away from his body, he relaxes. His spastic legs untangle themselves, his unwilling spine extends, and his little hands open to the sun.
He is riding; he is the king of his world.
