Markets are the new ‘in’ thing – and for good reason – it’s a great outing for families as there is a combination of shopping, food, drinks, kiddies entertainment to be had and fresh goods on offer.
Paarl and the Winelands has a great selection of markets all year round.

Val de Vie Market

Where? Val de Vie Estate

The market offers a variety of unique homemade fare sold from food trucks and vendors, as well as fun activities for children and a Cross Country Run presented by Bergstreme Developments.

In true Val de Vie style, you can watch a thrilling game of polo while sipping on a crisp glass of the estate’s superior wine and relaxing to live music. Held on the Polo Pavilion’s terrace, the Market at Val de Vie Estate has something for everyone to enjoy.

 

Windmeul Farmers’ Market

Where? Windmeul Winery on the R44

When? First Saturday of the month

windmeul-200x128Windmeul Winery just outside Paarl hosts a monthly farmers market on the first Saturday of the month. The produce on offer at the market includes organic vegetables, vegetables, fruit, beef, lamb and mutton, chicken, pork, freshly baked bread, droëwors and biltong, cheese, biscuits and cakes, free-range eggs, jams and preserves, olives and olive oil and so much more…

The farmers market is open from 8am-12.30pm.

 

Franschhoek Village Market

Where? 29 Hugenot Road, Franschhoek

When? Saturday’s from 9am – 3pm

village-market-200x133The Franschhoek Village Market is a family friendly food and craft market set in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley. Trading every Saturday, It is a food and craft market found under the shade of oak trees next to the historic NG Kerk Church. The market originally started out as a simple fresh-produce farmers’ market, but has since grown rapidly to include a wide selection of home-made treats.

It offers locals and visitors alike a vast array of high-quality, fresh, organic produce, delectable deli goods, craft items and local artwork. Handmade breads, home-made ginger beer, smoked cheese, local olive oils, craft beers, springrolls, and much, much more are available to taste and purchase. In terms of crafts, look out of delicate wire sculptures, gorgeous silver jewellery, African curios and artwork, antique collectables and second-hand books – to name a few.

Pure Boland Farmers Market

Where? The Greenshed, Brandwacht, Worcester

When? First Saturday of the month

pure bolandThis is a market you certainly want to attend. From wine, to craft beer to roosterkoek, there is something here for everyone.

Various local producers display and sell their products at the market. You will find a variety of the following at this unique market: fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables from the area, delicious jams, preserves, olives, wines, pastries, biscuits, koeksisters, cakes, pestos, quiche, cupcakes, hertzoggies, pies, locally roasted coffee, artisan wood fired oven breads, croissants, sundried fruit, arts & crafts and much more.

Kiddies entertainment includes Sand Art and face painting.

 

Stellenbosch Organic Farmers Market

Where? Stellenbosch Waldorf School, Annandale Road, Stellenbosch

When? Saturdays from 09:00 – 14:00

From pasture-reared chickens which come from less than 5 kms away, to local processed and preserved foods, cheeses, yoghurt, goats milk cheese, nuts and dried fruit, olives and oils, the market strives to become a one-stop, organic shopping destination.

Where? The Woodmill, Devon Valley, Stellenbosch

When? Last Friday of the month

Stellenbosch Slow Market

Root44 Market

Where? Audacia Farm, R44, Stellenbosch

When? Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 – 16:00

For the little people there is non-stop entertainment in the natural wood play park and lawn area. While the kids play enjoy a glass of local wine or ice-cold soft drink at the vibrant Blue Moon Bar. Pets are welcome.

 

Blaauklippen Family Market

Where? Blaauklippen Vineyards, Stellenbosch

When? Sundays from 10:00 – 15:00

Visit the carriage museum for seasonal fresh produce, cheese, homemade pies, olives, baked treats and much more. Interesting lifestyle products is on offer beneath the shade of the beautiful wild fig trees.

Make a note of tasting the excellent wine that Blaauwklippen has to offer. Enjoy a delicious cocktail or a chilled craft beer while enjoying some live music.
