Wine Tasting in the Vaal: The Vaal River Meander Wine Route
Looking for something truly special and unique? Try Wine Tasting in the Vaal during the most unusual and fun-filled wine route in South Africa, and very possibly one of the most unique wine tasting extravaganzas in the world!
For 6 weeks from the first week of of July to the last week of August, the Vaal River Meander Wine Route invites locals and visitors to the Vaal to enjoy wine tasting in the Vaal Triangle Region – despite there being no commercial vineyards in the Vaal!
The wines are imported from South Africa’s celebrated wine producing region, with many acclaimed Western Cape Wine Estates represented at multiple venues. These include Goedverwacht, Fleur du Cap, Spier, Constantia Glen, Morgenhof, Nederburg, Zonnebloem, Ken Forrester, Napier Wines, Boer en Brit, Robertsons Wines, Warwick, Diemersdal and Leopard’s Leap.
For as little as R20 to taste 8 different wines your senses will be enchanted by various cultivars, as will the unique modes of transport on offer to whisk you between venues. Choose between tour bus, vintage car, donkey cart, helicopter, house boat, luxury cruiser, yacht or speed boat!
See, Swirl, Smell, Taste and Spit (the last being optional) and enjoy the many cultivars and subtly different vintages on offer. Various accommodation establishments in the Vaal offer special wine route packages during this time, and other establishments hold their own specials and competitions e.g. beer tasting and ‘potjiekos’ (pot food) competitions.
