Savannah Wildlife Preserve and River Retreat
The Savannah Game Lodge, also called the Savannah Wildlife Preserve and River Retreat, is one of the lesser known gems of Parys.
There are over 25 mammal species on the reserve, including rhino, kudu, zebra and buffalo.
2500ha of pure paradise and amazing animal sites, set in Vredefort Dome World Heritage site, this family run retreat and game reserve offers game drive and other outdoors activities, paired with fine dining and excellent accommodation in tented camps, rondawels and in the main lodge.
The Savannah Wildlife Preserve and River Retreat borders 8km of the Vaal River, and some of the most popular activities besides game viewing are fly-fishing and birding. The Vaal River offers excellent fishing, with yellowfish the most common catch, and over 300 bird species have been recorded in the riverine bush and on the water. Other activities on the reserve include guided bush walks, river rafting and swimming. There are also numerous mtb trails, covering a total of 40km.
There is also a soccer pitch, wedding and conference facilities.
Getting there: The Savannah Wildlife Preserve and River Retreat is only 90 minutes drive from Johannesburg, near Parys.
