Hiking Trails in the Vredefort Dome, Parys
The Vredefort Dome Meteorite Hiking Trails is a system of Green Flag routes that cover a 60km area in the Vredefort Dome World Heritage area of the Northern Free State, near Parys.
Trails range from short circular trails that will take only a few hours, to 1 day, 2 day and up to 5 day hikes between four separate camps.
Trails range from easy to moderately difficult, and can be self-guided or guided tours. The history and geology of Vredefort Dome area is fascinating and you can see a lot of evidence of the ancient cataclysm (believed by most to have been a massive meteorite impact but by some to have been an explosion from within the earth), as well as San Rock Art and other historical artefacts.
