Deneysville

Deneysville was built in 1939 and named after Deneys Reitz, writer of Commando: A Boer Journal Of The Boer War and son of former Orange Free State president Francis William Reitz.

Deneysville is a small town on the banks of the Vaal Dam in the Free State province of South Africa. It has been dubbed the

“Inland Water Mecca of South Africa”.

Deneysville is the largest town on the Vaal Dam and is situated on the Free State side of the Vaal River. Only 1.5 hours from Johannesburg and a little more from Pretoria. The roads are very good and attract many bikers to visit the town for “the breakfast run” on weekends. There is easy access to the water for boats and fishermen and four yacht clubs that hold regular sailing races at weekends.

Two of the most known races are Keel Boat Week held at Deneysville Aquatic Club and Round The Island Yacht Race which is held at Lake Deneys Yacht Club. Because of the reported pollution of the Vaal River becoming a health hazard Deneysville attracts ever increasing numbers of watersports lovers every weekend and at holiday times.
