Jennifer Jones has always had a soft spot for children and being involved with Phoenix High Vereeniging has been a breath of fresh air for her.
Jennifer is currently assisting the school with starting up their school choir and on Friday the 15th she was in studio with 16 hand picked Phoenix High students for the recording of their brand new school song. The 16 students also make up the nucleus of the school choir.
Almost a 50 children auditioned for Jennifer to become part of the choir and be included in the studio recording.
Phoenix High is a relatively new high school (Old HTS Vereeniging). It only caters for grades 8 to 9 and is very specialised.
The Headmaster, Andre’ Botha as well as two teachers; Antoinette Deysel and Nici Coetzee were present at studio.
The school song was originally written by Mr Botha and two other teachers but re-arranged by Jennifer Jones and co-composed by Jennifer and her producer Byron Keno.
The song is not your normal run of the mill school anthem but is upbeat with a catchy melody, very “inclusive” so to speak. The 16 students, although very nervous caught onto the vibey feel Jennifer and Byron created. None of the students had ever been to a recording studio before or ever had came close to an opportunity such as this. It was truly an unforgettable day for them!
Jennifer insisted that she include the students in the recording. “After all, it’s their school and their school song.” She says.
The track should be finalised by the end of next week and Jennifer’s management are arranging that it be played once or twice over the Vaal’s local radio stations. This will be a proudly Vaal moment!
