Top 5 Best Selling Bakkies – July 2024
In a month dominated by positive sales charts, it was Toyota’s Hilux that retained the top step of the best-selling bakkies. Here are the Top 5 for July.
The Automotive Business Council reported a welcome uptick in July 2024’s aggregate new vehicle sales, potentially marking a turning point for improved performance in the second half of the year. Aggregate domestic new vehicle sales in July 2024 reached 44 229 units, an increase of 657 units, or 1.5%, from the 43 572 vehicles sold in July 2023. However, export sales saw a significant decrease, dropping by 12 671 units, or 33.2%, to 25 461 units in July 2024 compared to 38 132 units exported in July 2023.
Despite overall positive growth in the local market, domestic sales of new light commercial vehicles, bakkies, and minibuses in July 2024 were 11 554 units, a decrease of 1 112 units, or 8.8%, from the 12,666 light commercial vehicles sold in July 2023. Medium and heavy truck segments also performed weaker, with medium commercial vehicles at 641 units, down 45 units, or 6.6%, from 686 units in July 2023, and heavy trucks and buses at 2 100 units, down 80 vehicles, or 3.7%, from 2,180 units sold in the same month last year.

- Toyota Hilux – 3 021 units
- Ford Ranger – 2 258 units
- Isuzu D-Max – 1 641 units
- Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up – 790 units
- Nissan Navara – 450 units
The Hilux still retains the throne with the Ranger, D-Max, Scorpio Pik-Up and Navara all holding the status quo from the month before.
