Jan Blohm’s latest music video showcases his creative side
Levi Jeans, the third single taken from Jan Blohm’s latest album – Jenny, has just been released and now the music video is also available for fans to enjoy.
The video was filmed at Lionel Smit’s studio and art gallery and not only showcases his beautiful work but is also symbolic of the creativity behind the song and video. “The video is unique because it was shot by Lionel himself, at his gallery, and with his work in the background,” Jan shares. “There was no specific idea or concept for the video, and everything just came together perfectly. The message is that creativity can be liberating.”
Liberation is also one of the themes of the single that was written by the artist himself. “Levi Jeans were originally worn as overalls by workers. It later became a fashion item and is also where the term ‘Blue Collar’ comes from. In our country’s history there was a time where it was forbidden for women to wear jeans (in certain parts of the country) – the song is therefore also about liberation and empowerment,” he says
Levi Jeans represents the next chapter of this award-winning musician’s concept album and follows in the successful footsteps of Jenny and Ou Karoo that were both extremely well received and are still top of the charts of some of the country’s biggest radio stations.
The album consists of fourteen tracks that tell the story of two teenagers who lived in the small conservative railway town, De Aar, in the 1980s.
Jenny was released just before lockdown in March 2020 and introduced fans to the main characters of the story.
Ou Karoo sets the scene and places emphasis on the landscape that flows through these people’s veins and make it difficult for them to adapt elsewhere. It’s a song about Jenny’s own longing to be back home.
“The album is not merely a collection of songs,” explains the artist. “It is a careful composition of songs and poetry that tell a story and was put together over the course of 15 years. It’s like a film.”
In addition to working on his music, Blohm is currently focused on painting and sculpting – he owns an art gallery in Strand.
With Levi Jeans Jan Blohm not only gets to share the next chapter of Jenny’s story, but the video also gives him the opportunity to show fans what else he is passionate about.
His album, Jenny, is available on all digital platforms
