CrossFit
My experience at CrossFit in Meyerton:
I don’t know why our girls always ask questions about our weight, or complaining that we are fat,
but there is for sure no quick fix for weight loss. I tried almost everything…. until a friend of mine
invited me to a quick workout at a CrossFit Gym with a weight loss program promising results within 40 days.
Well, I am always positive towards a challenge… and boy, was this a challenge! However, after 40 days I was in for a big surprise… I have lost 6kg!
Brad Strydom, owner of the CrossFit Gym at Oudewerf, Meyerton, answered some of the questions for the curious people among us…
What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is essentially a strength & conditioning program that is broad, general & inclusive, with its speciality being that of not specialising. It prepares you for the known and the unknown, combat,
survival, many sports and life in general.
What can I expect?
There is no mirrors, so no posing to take place!
Expect constantly varied, functional movements, at high intensity. This means that every day you can expect something different from yesterday, from pushing, pulling, lifting, running, jumping, etc.
You work with compound movements from power lifting, Olympic weightlifting & gymnastics and shorter high intensity cardiovascular sessions. You train as a group so expect a community of like-
minded individuals with a common goal in getting stronger, fitter & healthier. Don’t expect machines… you use barbells, bodyweight, sandbags, kettle bells, medicine balls and a number of other objects for your conditioning. It’s real world strength. There is no mirrors, so no posing to take place…
Do I need to be fit to start?
You will never be ‘fit’ enough. The workouts can be scaled to meet the needs of all fitness abilities, so if you just starting out, they will scale the workout to fit your abilities. CrossFit is as hard as you make it & fitness is a never ending pursuit.
Is CrossFit for me?
You will love it !!!
For sure!! Your needs & the Olympic athletes differ by degree not kind. The 10 components of “Fitness” being accuracy, power, strength, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, flexibility, stamina, coordination, agility and balance are as important to the world’s best athletes as they are to the overweight, the sedentary, the sick, casual athletes and even the elderly.
How do I join?
Simple! You swing by to one of the classes for an intro. From here we will then asses your foundations, starting with the squat and working through the various movements that will be done in the WOD (workout of the day). Your complete the WOD scaled to your abilities, you will love it and then come back to join full time!
Boys & girls, this is an opportunity not to be missed… Loose the extra kilo’s and get ready for this Summer!
