A revival of the Midvaal Tourism Industry
In its plight to pump some life into the tourism industry within the Midvaal Local Municipality’s jurisdiction, the municipality has in the past few weeks embarked on a Tourism Sector Business Visitation Programme.
This is a first of its kind programme to ever be seen in the Sedibeng region.
Through the duration of the programme, delegates were sent to various tourist attractions in Midvaal where they were given the ultimate tourist experience.
Visits ranged from hotels, restaurants and even places where people could go for an adventure of a lifetime.
Speaking about the programme, Midvaal Local Municipality MMC for Development and Planning Mokete Motsamai said that the visits were not only for the revival of tourism in Midvaal, but also as a way to form a strategic relationship with stakeholders in the tourism sector. This would be achieved by stakeholders sharing the challenges they face and by the municipality trying to come up with solutions pertaining to these problems.
Motsamai together with the Development and Panning Section 80 Portfolio Committee, embarked on a visit to two tourist attractions in the vicinity. The focus was on two types of tourism establishments namely Hospitality and Adventure.
Motsamai says, “First, we visited Tree Top Adventures in De-deur. Tree Top Adventures is set against a semi-rural and farming backdrop, perfect for team building sessions, day visits by school groups, church groups, family visits.
“Jola Njovane owner of Tree Top Adventures commended the Municipality’s efforts to grow and develop local tourism and expressed that marketing of local businesses is critical for tourism sector growth.
“The Second establishment that was visited was Molly’s Speakeasy Restaurant in Henley on Klip along Ewelme Road. Marco van der Walt and Gareth Diedericks from Molly’s welcomed the Municipality on this initiative and pointed out that they now know who to contact within the Municipality for tourism and business related issues.”
The aim is for people to see Midvaal as a destination of choice where people live work and play.
Motsamai encourages all South Africans to visit Midvaal and explore what it has to offer when coming to tourism.
