The Wine Route is a relaxed way to enjoy the best of South Africa’s wine, and a feel-good way to spend a lazy winter Saturday and Sunday (from midday to 6pm every weekend). R80 per person is all it costs to enjoy tastings of 8 different wines. All of the venues on the Wine Route showcase different Wine Estates. This means you can go from venue to venue, tasting a new selection of wines that you’ve never heard of. You might even find your “new favourite” along the way. This is an opportunity to appreciate the wonderful wines South Africa has to offer – all in a welcoming environment.

Where Is It?

Gauteng’s most popular Wine Route discerns itself from other Wine Routes in South Africa with its record number of ways in which you can enjoy this winter wine treat. Be it by houseboat, luxury cruiser, water-taxi, tour-bus or in your own car or in a helicopter – the Vaal River Meander Wine Route has more ways to enjoy the experience than any other Wine Route in South Africa. The different wine tasting venues are so diverse and offer contrasting experiences – as do their wines – with the single common thread of each presenting great South African wines. You might select a venue where you can enjoy eloquently sipping wine at a classy hotel on the river. Or in front of a roaring fireplace in a cozy pub. What about enjoying sipping wine while enjoying the view from a Boathouse overlooking the river? How about a picnic wine tasting treat? You could also try your hand at Lady Luck at the Casino. Another option is a private wine tasting cruise for your group of friends or colleagues; or aboard a luxury cruiser restaurant. There are also special weekend accommodation packages which include fun things like Dinner Theatre as well as delightful food and wine pairing meals.
