School Shoes for Happy Feet
More than four thousand shoes were collected and distributed to primary and high schools in the Vaal 21 Region as part of the School Shoes for Happy Feet project.
Vaal Mall, ShowMe Vaal, Jenifer Jones Entertainment and SA Music Group joined forced in a quest to collect more than 3000 pairs of shoes to be distributed to underprivileged children in the bigger Vaal 21 Region. The region includes Heidelberg, Heilbron, Parys as well as Evaton, Sebokeng, Vandebijlpark, Vereeniging and Sasolburg.
On Saturday, 31 May a collection station was set-up on Vaal Mall where the public and local businesses could donate new school shoes. Riverside Rotary donated 3000 pairs of Toms and Vaal Mall, as part of their Mandela Day is Every Day initiative, sponsored ten thousand rand’s worth of school shoes towards the project and over 4000 shoes were collected in total. Local artists who also came on board in support of the project included Jennifer Jones, Adam Barnard, Byron Keno, Anthony Guillaume, Hannes van Tonder and Jan Botes.
The majority of shoes were distributed on Thursday, 12 and Friday, 13 June and the following schools already benefitted from the project and more shoes are still to be distributed:
