Julian Katz, the owner of the Exceptional Bakery and Deli at the Karibu Nursery in Umhlali, is a genius hospitality expert, specialising in luxury brands with exceptional distinction. Together with his wife Samantha and executive pastry chef Sean Mann, Julian opened the new luxury eatery, which is now the talk of the town.
Using only the finest ingredients, sourced and imported by Julian who loves discovering new world trends, Exceptional Bakery and Deli is a place of comfort. A place where you can savour the finest mouth watering pastries, artisan breads, French deserts, opulent cakes, exotic biscuits and if time is on your side you can sit down to an unrushed breakfasts or lunch in their beautiful nursery setting.
Julian is a born performer, seeing him waltz around the venue is precious, winking in my direction, he says, “We are having fun girl.” Having spent nearly thirty years in the hospitality industry Julian makes the perfect host.
Exceptional Bakery and Deli is worthy of world-class distinction. There truly is nothing like it in KZN. Their traditional Babka loaf brought back memories from my childhood. Generously spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, it offers preposterous levels of comfort to the taste buds.
One thing that caught my eye was how reasonably priced Exceptional Bakery and Deli was. A green salad made up of farm fresh greens, cherry tomatoes and Parmesan shavings at just R28. A generous portion of Spinach and feta Quiche will set you back just R38. However price will be the last thing on your mind when you visit the Exceptional Bakery and Deli, this place is earmarked for foodies and lovers of fine fare.
