Things to do on a Weekend in Ballito
Ballito on the KZN Dolphin Coast is one of South Africa’s most popular holiday destinations. With King Shaka International Airport just 15 minutes away, it makes a great weekend break for young and old alike. If you are in town for a few days, ShowMe would like to suggest you try the following…
Walk/ Jog the Promenade
The 4 km promenade path runs between Williard Beach in the North and Salmon Bay in the South (in front of The Boathouse Hotel). Park in the public parking area near The Galley Restaurant and take an easy, brisk walk along the prepared path as far as La Montagne Hotel to the north, turn and return. Dolphins are often seen migrating northward in the morning or southward in the later afternoon along the coastline and Whales frequent these waters in the later winter/ early spring months. Watch for the great spurts of water as they leap into the air and smack into the water again in sheer pleasure…
Benches along the route provide the ideal resting area to sit back, enjoy the fresh sea breeze and watch the multitudes enjoying the many tidal pools and their hidden treasures, rock surf fishing or surfing the waves known worldwide when Ballito hosts the Ballito Pro Sponsored by Billabong Surf Championship (July).

Meander through a Farmers Market with Artisan Products
Despite the cosmopolitan ethos of the burgeoning business sector, Ballito still retains many of the traditions of the farming community from whence the area grew. Saturday morning farmers markets are a regular feature in the area with The Litchi Orchard hosting a Night Market with live music once a month too.
The Mid-Month Market runs on a Saturday at The Litchi Orchard. Beanstruk at the Litchi Orchard is a specialist boutique coffee roastery. Chat to Michelle who will enthusiastically create the ideal blend for you based on your particular taste in coffee.
Foodies Market at Lifestyle runs on the first Saturday of the month and is an outlet for organic producers to sell their wares direct to the public.

The large tidal pool in front of Salt Rock Hotel is large enough and deep enough to offer ‘real’ surf swimming, but shallow enough to be completely safe. Be sure to wait for the tide to come in and surf the swells as they break over the outer pool wall….great fun for children of ALL ages.
