Speak your Heart with Flowers this Valentine
The depth of redness and thorny stem of the single red rose is meant to symbolize the intensity of romantic love…
Sonja Watson of Mocca Blooms, Ballito, is just one local florist who dreads the impending chaos of Valentine’s Day. As a florist with many years experience, she has yet to emerge on the 15th of February unscathed. Despite meticulous care in ordering her supplies in advance, it takes only one smitten fool to make his grand leap into Love on the 14th February… (Last year a lovestruck husband spontaneously ordered R3000 of red roses on the eve of Valentine) …and Sonja is left scouring the hot, sticky depths of Durban desperately seeking blooms to replace her depleted store!
If you find yourself in queue behind a similarly afflicted love-blind fool this year or simply refuse to subscribe to the mass mania for red this day brings, you might find a bloom that says a little more of what you were meaning to say:
Pink Rose – lesser affection than the mad love of Red
Orange Rose – fascination
Yellow Rose – friendship and devotion
Lily-of-the-Valley – return to happiness
Primrose – I can’t live without you, woman
Periwinkle – sweet memories
Orchid – Love, Beauty, Refinement….Chinese symbol for many children!
Sweet William – grant me one smile, gallantry
Hyacinth – constancy of love
Ivy – fidelity
Spider Flower – Elope with me!
Honeysuckle – I Love You
Purple Hyacinth – I’m sorry, please forgive me
Yellow Tulip – there’s sunshine in your smile
Daffodil – the sun shines when I’m with you.
Red Tulip – believe me, Declaration of Love
Dwarf Sunflower – Adoration, but a
Tall Sunflower – False Riches and Pride!
And for those at the opposite spectrum of the Love Ride, a simple bouquet of SWEETPEA might be in order. This sweet delicate bouquet delivers the perfect message at the end of a relationship…
Sweetpea – Good-by, Blissful Pleasure, Thank You for a lovely Time!
