New Hope for Parents with Children with Autism
Imbalito Hope College hosted a weekend workshop teaching parents, teachers and health professionals a signing program for Autistic Children.
This Valentine’s weekend our Local Imbalito Hope College (Nirasha Dhaniram, Director and Psychologist of the Centre) hosted Maggie Golding (both pictured here in the front row centre) an international Educational and Autism consultant, who trained on the Makaton Signing Programme. Parents, teachers, health professionals and community members attended, seen here posing with the international sign for love. Makaton signing is a unique method of augmentative communication and also helps with improving literacy for children with Autism and for those who have communication challenges. The event was co – sponsored by Netcare Alberlito Hospital who partners with Imbalito Hope College’s Ballito Autism Centre of Excellence, on the first Saturday of every month in hosting the Autism support group monthly. There will be another Makaton session at Netcare Umhlanga Hospital on 21-22 February, as hosted by Imbalito Hope College. The internationally acclaimed TEACCH course continues for most of this week too as part of the programme.
