Wolwespruit Nature Reserve

Tranquil and little known as a tourist destination, the Wolwespruit Nature Reserve protects a number of plains game species and is an ideal destnation for families and those looking for some peace, quiet and recreational  fishing in unspoiled nature without tourist frills and luxuries.

The reserve runs along the border between the North West Province and the Free State along Vaal River frontage. The biome is therefore mostly riverine bush, and the reserve is popular among anglers, hikers and birders who can also enjoy sightings of the plains game without being concerned with large predators.

Probably best known for great angling, the river offers great yellowfish angling in the rapids.

Facilities are basic, with camping sites along the river and one small self-catering cottage that sleeps 6 people. Accommodation must be booked in advance, but day visitors are also welcomed.
