Wellington Mountain Bike Trail at Welvanpas Wine Farm

Welvanpas MTB Trail, WellingtonWelvanpas, with its picturesque setting, dates back to 1705 and has been the home of the Retief family for 7 generations – amongst them, Voortrekker leader, Piet Retief. Location, soil and climate all contributes to the fine wines produced in the cellar which has played host to more than 100 harvests.

The Wellington Mountain Bike Trail at Welvanpas is very popular with bikers in the know. You can experience beauty you never knew existed in the Western Cape. The trail is challenging, but rewarding. Stop at the top of the climbs to absorb it all. The reward for your effort is fast, technical single track with breathtaking views!

Route Overview: The route starts and ends at Welvanpas farm which is nestled between the beautiful Hawekwa and Groenberg mountain ranges. It is mainly single track and winds through orchard, vineyard, waterfalls and pristine fynbos.

I rode the white route and yellow route at Welvanpas farm, near Wellington today. This is a single track paradise, the trail builder has put together a masterpiece. Some very steep stuff here and there with technical descents too…..The surroundings are stunning.

There are three routes to choose from with different technical levels. The blue route is 15km and ideal for a beginner or a nice warm up! The white route is more technical and known for its challenging single track. This route is 29km in total. The yellow route will take you high up through the pine forest of the Hawekwa mountain range with a steep and challenging downfall. This route is 17 km in total.

In the summer the natural swimming pool, filled with river water is there for your enjoyment afterwards as well as a good cup of coffee in the coffee shop “Die ou Meul”. They serve muffins and cakes and delicious sandwiches for the hungry!

The Welvanpas wine range can be tasted and purchased here as well. Open for tasting all week, except for Monday. There is a play area for children.
