Three Sisters Horse Trails near Port Alfred, Sunshine Coast

Three Sister’s Horse Trails offer beach outrides, half day trails and 2 day horse trails around the Kleinemonde and Riet River mouths about 14 kms east of Port Alfred.

These trails traverse a variety of terrains, from beach, to fields, wetlands and bush – all across an historic Settler cattle farm called Tharfield Farm.

The farm boasts 4km of secluded and pristine beach dunes and is also bordered by a game reserve – presenting a great to opportunity to do some game viewing form horseback.

The area with its diverse habitats is a bird paradise – so these are definitely trails for bird-watching and riding enthusiasts.

Some interesting sites that can be seen along the way include the 300 year old graves of ship-wrecked sailors next to the Three Sisters Rocks and ‘strandloper’ shell middens, not to mention land and sea mammal sightings!

The two day horse safari trail includes a 3 hour ride on day 1 to tree-house accommodation with braai facilities and hammocks in a huge old yellowwood tree overhanging a natural pool in the forest-lined Riet River. Day two is a two hour ride back along the Kleinemonde River after breakfast at the treehouse. Bring swimming costumes – you will certainly want to take a dip in the river after the first’s day’s ride.
