The Skaapplaas hiking trail, Mossel Bay, Garden Route
Visualise indigenous forest, Bushmen paintings, riverbeds, swimming holes, waterfalls, fynbos and vistas over beautiful valleys and out to sea …and then you may have some idea of what this hike at Skaapplaas has to offer.
The accredited, moderate Skaapplaas hiking trail is approximately 10 km and takes between 5 and 6 hours to complete. It passes through an indigenous stinkwood forest with tree ferns, tranquil mountain streams and is a bird watcher’s paradise. The refreshing cool forest breeze wafts through the branches of 600 year old yellowwood trees.
The surrounding hills are covered with fynbos and host the famous King Protea. Panoramic views of Mossel Bay and surrounds are not uncommon along the trail.
Skaapplaas offers accommodation whether you are on our hiking trail or not. Fully equipped housing for 5 people is available at the base camp and a secluded self-catering hut for 6 people near the waterfall. Here you can relax and experience the peacefulness of mother nature.

Directions: Take the R328 from Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn. Pass Brandwag and turn west onto the Haelkraal road (before Eight bells Mountain Inn). Turn right off the Haelkraal road towards Skaapplaas.
