Sunland Baobab Tree, Modadjiskloof, Limpopo
The Sunland Big Baobab is world-famous as the widest baobab tree in the world. It is also possibly the oldest tree in the world, carbon-dated to 6000 years old.
The gigantic tree, 22m high and 47 metres in girth, is situated on the Sunland Farm, among the avocado, mango and palm tree plantations at the foot of the Modadjiskloof below the Modjajiskloof Cycad Reserve, near Tzaneen in the Limpopo Province.
Sunland offers accommodation for 20 people and quad-biking, but the major draw is the Baobab Tree Bar – a bar built into the hollow trunk of this enormous tree.
Getting there: From Tzaneen take the R36 north to Modjajiskloof and continue on past the Cycad Reserve. Follow the signs. The total travelling distance is about 30km.
