Shumba Valley Horse Trails, Fouriesburg
The wide open spaces, rolling grasslands, farmlands, mountain foothills and breath-taking views along the line of the Caledon River and the Eastern Free State border with Lesotho support many horse trails operations. One such operation is Shumba Valley Horse Trails near Fouriesburg.
The Shumba Valley Horse Trails are offered by the Shumba Valley Farm and Equestrian Centre. Trails are arranged in packages ranging from 4 night to 10 night trails.
The Ouhout Camp Trail consists of 3 nights sleeping at the Shumba Valley Lodge with day rides from the farm, and one night at the Ouhout Camp in a private nature reserve.
The Caledon Meander Trail consists of a day ride to a farm in Ficksburg, two overnights on the farm, a ride to a cherry farm, a ride to Clarens followed by an evening outing on the floating cigar lounge, the White Mischief, followed by a day’s ride back to Shumba Valley.
The Out of Africa Trail involves riding into the mountains, into kloofs and along ridges and a night sleeping under the stars. This is a true adventure lover’s trail.
Shumba will also tailor-make a 10 day group trail that takes in all of the diverse attractions of the area.

Getting there: Take the R26 from Fouriesburg toward Ficksburg. Turn left after 9k at the S293 (Sandstone City) sign and continue for a further 3km to a T-junction. Turn right onto the S344.The entrance to Shumba Valley is a 100m up the road on the left.
