Orpen Rest Camp Complex, Kruger National Park

The Orpen Complex in the central section of the Kruger National Park is home to three very attractive and popular rest camps: Orpen Rest Camp and its two satellite camps, Maroela Caravan Camp and Tamboti Tented Camp.

Cheetah frequent the thornveld plains around the Orpen Complex in the Kruger National ParkCheetah, Lion, and Leopard frequent this area, as grazers find the sweet-grass plains in the camps surrounds a tasty feeding ground.

These plains offer game viewers one of the best opportunities to see a cheetah kill in the park. Orpen also offers slightly more cutting-edge game-viewing than most other camps; you can keep tabs on the game activity at the waterhole by checking out the Orpen webcam.

The camp is named in honour of the Orpen family, who donated this portion of land to the park to open this unique rest camp complex. Be sure to include it on your accommodation itinerary in the park! Bookings and info.

Getting there: from Gauteng, head toward Nelspruit on the N4 and take the R540 Belfast turn off. At Lydenburg turn left onto the R36 heading north. 30 km before Hoedspruit turn right onto the R531 and head to the gate. Allow between 4 to 5 hours for the trip to the gate. Orpen camp is right at the gate.
