Orkney Golf Course, North West Province, South Africa
Orkney Golf Course was established in 1939 as a nine hole course on the banks of the Vaal River in the North West Province of South Africa. Designed by the legendary Bob Grimsdell, the second nine was added in the mid forties and the clubhouse in 1953.
The course is ranked in the top hundred in South Africa and its location on one of the largest rivers in the country ensures that the course can be kept in tip top condition throughout the year. The fairways are well treed and there are water hazards on five of the holes, apart from the Vaal River. Four of the fairways run alongside the river with a narrow strip of rough separating them from the water.
