Nottingham Road, Midlands, Kwazulu-Natal

Country scenery on the Midlands Meander, Nottingham RoadNottingham Road could well be said to be the heart of the Midlands Meander route in Kwazulu-Natal. The town displays all that the Midlands Meander has to offer with gorgeous country scenery and an abundance of historic attractions.

The Nottingham Road Hotel is home to the oldest pub in South Africa, known to locals as ‘the Legendary’. Rawdon’s Hotel is home to the Nottingham Road Brewing Company, famous for brews such as the ‘pickled-pig’, ‘pie-eyed possum’ and ‘whistling weasel’.

The Junction Centre is home to an array of fantastic arts and crafts shops, making it one of the most popular attractions on the Midlands Meander. Nottingham Road is also one of the major fly-fishing areas of the Midlands.

Nottingham Road, or ‘Notties’ as the locals like to call it, is a gateway town to what the locals like to phrase as ‘the three B’s’: The Berg (Drakensberg), Beach and Bush. Nottingham Road is less than 2hrs away from all of these attractions, making it the perfect gateway town in Kwazulu-Natal.

Getting there: From Durban, take the N3 going to Howick. Here, take the R103 going to Nottingham Road.
