Mountain Biking in the Dwarsrivier Conservancy, Cederberg
The Cederberg is a household name for adventure in the Western Cape. For mountain bikers, the rugged terrain and challenging singletrack is the attraction in this area. Trails in the Dwarsrivier Conservancy in the Cederberg vary from 7.5-km to 170-km circular or linear routes and are all graded as intermediate. The most popular linear route is the Wuppertal trail that takes you through snaking gravel passes into the town of Wuppertal itself and if you start in the conservancy area, will be approximately 46km there and back. The most popular circular route is the 12-km route starting from the Sanddrif campsite, that takes you on singletrack through divine fields of fynbos and the Cederberg vineyards.
Other Routes:
The Loop – Can be started anywhere – Doing the circular route around Matjiesriver and Kromriver – Stop over for refreshments at Oasis and Kromriver.
Cederberg Challenge – Doing the Mountain between Oasis,Nuwerust and Mount Ceder Stop over for refreshments at Oasis and Mount Ceder.
Voêlvlei – Taking the right turn north of Keurbosfontein. Road stops at a gate, turn around and back. No stop over for refreshments.
Driehoek – Doing the circular route around Driehoek and Perdekloof. No stop over for refreshments.
Ride Through – From the south , starting at gravel road at Kagga Kamma’s turnof. 48 km to Oasis over Blinkberg Pass. North over Wupperthal , 60 km to Biedouw Valley , or Oasis to N7 over Algeria 60 km.
Bikers can stay at the Cederberg Oasis Farm, which is a backpackers establishment with camping facilities and a fully operational restaurant, or the Sanddrif Camp Site.
Directions from Cape Town: follow the N7 past Citrusdal. Turn right at the Algeria turnoff and continue along the road to Algeria Forest Station. Go past Algeria and stay on this road to Matjiesrivier. Turn right here and continue for 7km to Sandrif or Cederberg Oasis Farm.
