Midmar Resort, Midlands Meander, KwaZulu-Natal
Midmar is a beautiful dam on the Umgeni River, situated in the stunning Umgeni valley in the Midlands Meander. There are three separate campgrounds here, two of which are situated on the water’s edge. Midmar’s tranquil setting provides opportunities for a variety of sporting activities, such as watersports, cycling, walking and angling.
The dam hosts a number of exciting events, such as the annual Midmar Mile, which is the largest open-water swimming event in the world, as well as a number of provincial and national triathlons. The dam lies within the Midmar Game Reserve, which is a great place for game viewing during a relaxing stay here.

Getting there: from Durban, take the N3 going through Pinetown to Howick. Here, look out for signs to the Midmar Resort.
