King David Golf Club, Parow, Cape Town
King David Golf Club is situated in the Parow/Bellville area about 20 minutes north of the city of Cape Town. The club was established in 1956 to cater for the large Jewish community in the area. The course was designed by the renowned Bob Grimsdell and is rated as one of the top layouts in South Africa.
During the apartheid days the club welcomed members from all racial groups and this helped to sustain the club’s popularity during the difficult times.
However, the club went into a state of decline due to a declining Jewish population and the political climate at the time combined with a lack of finances. In 1994 a new era in the club’s fortunes resulted in plans to upgrade the club house and the course. Since then the club has never looked back and is now ranked in the top 100 courses in the country.
The course layout can best be described as open parklands and the fact that it has not been necessary to change the layout is testimony to the quality of the original design. A state of the art reticulation system was recently installed and the course is now kept in pristine condition year round.
