Heuningberg Nature Reserve, Bredasdorp, Western Cape

Bredasdorp Lily, Heuningberg Nature Reserve

The 800ha Heuningberg Nature Reserve began as a wildflower garden and today boasts over 300 species of fynbos, including a number of endemics, the most sought after being the Bredasdorp Lily, that usually flowers between April and May. Differing flowering species occur throughout the year that attracts local bird species.

The reserve, set on the slopes of Heuningberg (Honey Mountain), south-east of Bredasdorp, has two hiking trails – the white and yellow routes. On these trails you will experience interesting rock formations, kloofs and incredible views over Bredasdorp and further afield to Arniston, De Hoop Nature Reserve and south to Struisbaai.

From the town centre, head towards the Bredasdorp High School via Van Riebeeck Street and follow this road until it ends at a parking space and closed gate. This is the start of the reserve.
