Hanglip Forest Reserve, Louis Trichardt, Soutpansberg
The small Hanglip Forest Reserve (sometimes mistakenly called Hangklip Forest Reserve) is a beautiful mountain and forest wilderness overlooking the town of Louis Trichardt. It is famous for its breathtaking forests and the 2 day Hanglip Hiking Trail. In addition to the Hanglip Trail, there are a number of walking trails through the reserve – from 1km to 3km in length. There is also a picnic area and braai spot with tables and benches and ablutions.
Hanglip Reserve is comprised of 340ha of indigenous sub-tropical forest, flanked by SAFCOL pine plantations. The indigenous forest is rich in bird-life, and the ubiquitous mountain forest streams beckon on hot summer days. Hanglip is perfect for a day out from Louis Trichardt.
Getting there: Take Forestry Drive through Louis Trichardt’s northern-most suburbs and follow the signs. Hanglip is right on the edge of the town, about 4.5km from the centre of Louis Trichardt. Be prepared for an entrance fee to the Reserve.
