Haenertsburg Grasslands Hiking Trail, Limpopo

The 10km Haenertsburg Grassland Hiking Trail is run by an organisation called Friends of the Haenertsburg Grassland (FroHG). The trail traverses one of the most threatened ecosystems in the Limpopo – mist belt grassland, and some forest pockets around the village of Haenertsburg.

The circular trail starts and ends in Haenertsburg near the Village Hall, and takes you to various viewpoints and picnic sites with delightful names such as Bubbling Brook picnic site and Rhino Rubbing rock. The mist belt grassland has over 630 flora species and supports several threatened animal and insect species including Methuen’s Dwarf Gecko, the Blue Swallow and the Wolkberg Zulu Butterfly.

This is an easy walking a self-guide trail. Maps can be purchased at the Magoebaskloof Tourism Office in Haenertsburg , the Never Despair Shop or the Nipper’s Cheese Stall.
