Gydo Pass between Ceres and Citrusdal, Western Cape

Gydo Pass ViewsThe Gydo Pass, well known for the magnificent views over the valley below and for bird watching, is north of Ceres, en-route to Citrusdal on the R303.

The pass is named after a species of euphorbia which covers the slopes of the Skurweberg. The summit is reached 7km after the ascent begins.  At the viewpoint at the crest of the pass, the colourful orchards, fields and dams, surrounded by rugged mountains, offers the photographer great opportunity. The tar and partially gravel road then winds its way down from the pass, through beautiful, fairly uninhabited countryside. The pass is sometimes closed on a few days in winter, but mostly winter offers starkly beautiful scenery.

If you are travelling from Ceres to Citrusdal, this is the 110km route you will take.
