God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, Mpumalanga

God's Window - South Africa's most stunning viewpointThe clue to the splendour of this attraction is certainly in the title. God’s Window is the most prime spot on the Panorama Route from which you will get a panoramic view of the Blyde River Canyon, the third-largest canyon in the world. Standing on top of the Drakensberg Escarpment, you look down over the cliffs that plunge almost a kilometre down to the Lowveld, which then stretches out to what seems to be the edge of the earth.

The indigenous forests down below stretch towards the Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga’s most popular tourist attraction. You will also see the better part of the length of the 250km long Drakensberg Escarpment, marked with stunning cliff-faces and waterfalls.

God’s Window is an unforgettable sightseeing experience in this most unforgettable part of the world, and must be added as an essential item on your to-do list in the the Panorama Route of Mpumalanga.

Getting there: from Gauteng, take the N4 going towards Nelspruit. At Belfast, take the R540 going North to Lydenburg. Here, continue on the R36. Turn right at the R533 turn off and continue to Graskop. Here, take the R534 to God’s Window.
