Fishing at Cape Vidal, Elephant Coast, Kwazulu-Natal

Fishing off the beach at Cape Vidal, Kwazulu-NatalCape Vidal is a small Kwazulu-Natal Wildlife resort consisting of a few log cabins and a camp site. The resort is situated within the isiMangaliso Wetland Park and is only accessible from St Lucia. Cape vidal is a popular fishing spot during the annual shad run. Fishing can be done off the beach or off a series of rock ledges that run for several kilometres southwards of Cape Vidal. Here, you can catch excellent game-fish, such as Natal stumpnose, kingfish, pompano, blackfin and ragged-tooth sharks.

Tips for fishermen:

Rock ledges are slippery and should only be fished at low tide. Wear no-slip shoes to avoid disaster. Always be watchful of incoming waves. From the beach, shad are best caught using a silver spoon (spinner).

Getting there: from Durban, take the N2 going north. Turn off at the R618 going to St Lucia and follow the signs to Cape Vidal.
