Extreme White Water River Rafting in Clarens

“Take a Splash on the Ash’, get Wet, wet and have a huge amount of fun in the process with Grade 3 and 4 white water rafting on the Ash River near Clarens in the Eastern Free State.

The Ash River is fed by the Katse Dam in neighbouring Lesotho and is always in full flow, irrespective of rainfall. This is some of the best white water rafting in South Africa!

The rapids have suitably descriptive names – ‘Breathiliser’, ‘Car-wash’, ‘Alles-verloren’ (Everything is lost), ‘Alles-gevonden’ (Everything is found), with the toughest rapid rather oddly named ‘Fish-Pond Rapid’. This last is only negotiated after everyone gets out to look at it from a bridge (presumably to prepare themselves and/or back out).

Getting there: Clarens is situated on the R712 east of Bethlehem and south of Harrismith. From JHB take the N3 to Villiers, then turn on to the R712. From Durban take the N3 to Harrismith. Its about 4 drive hours from both major cities.
