Entabeni Hiking Trail, Entabeni State Forest, Soutpansberg

The 2 day 2 night Entabeni Hiking Trail moves through the plantations and indigenous forests of the Entabeni State Forest, about 40km east of Louis Trichardt in the Soutpansberg, in a sub-region also known as the Levubu.

The Entabeni Hiking Trail is a figure-of-eight-hike with both days starting at the Entabeni Hikers Hut (see directions below), with 2 x 16km loop options taking you to viewpoints and through beautiful indigenous forest. Each 16km loop has special features – which is why it is recommended you stay and do both days. Both routes also have and additional loop option is available for the very fit and energetic.

The Phadzima View Trail takes you north through indigenous sub-tropical rainforest with magnificent huge tree ferns, up to Phadzima Viewpoint with views over the valley. There is a small man made dam en-route called the Ebbe Dam.

The Redwood Trail takes you in the other direction into a Redwood forest with beautiful fungi and Vera’s Tears waterfall and Lookout Point.

The Entabeni Hikers Hut is newly built and well equipped with hot showers and an inside braai facility – among other comforts, though you still need to bring your own bedding. The Entabeni Trail is run by Komati Eco-Tourism.
