Doring Bay Fishing, West Coast
Doring Bay, just south of Strandfontein, is another small West Coast town characterised by the long sandy beaches of the West Coast, broken intermittently by rocky outcrops. Among these rocky outcrops are prolific beds of kelp within which there is an abundance of bait organisms, a magnet for the fish.
The long stretch of beach between Doringbaai and Strandfontein often yields the sought after West Coast steenbras on bait of white mussel, prawn or fish bait.
Hottentot is present throughout the year, and galjoen in the winter. If you’re fishing for hottentot or galjoen along the rocks, it is best to try different spots each day as they tend to move around. The best baits are redbait, white and black mussels and mussel worms.
Doringbaai is reached on gravel (sometimes not so good) roads from Lamberts Bay.
