De Voedpadkloof Nature Reserve

The 600ha De Voedpadkloof Nature Reserve offers affordable bush safaris, family accommodation and camping, hikes and walks, birding, relaxing and game viewing in the lush bush and tranquil settings of the Loskop Valley 40km north of Middelburg.

The small but very pretty reserve is family friendly, with play facilities for children, and is a perfect weekend getaway for those happy to swop luxury for simplicity and a ‘braai’ under the stars.

In Afrikaans ‘Loskop’ is an affectionate but slightly derogatory term for someone who isn’t ‘all there’ – literally ‘loose-head’.  You can also say, “I’m being ‘loskop'” if you forgot where you put your car keys – again. Loskop Valley is a great place to be loskop – all weekend. The only thing you have to be capable of is tying the laces on your walking boots, taking photos of the many bird and antelope species that you will find here, and following the trail signs on a variety of day walking trails around the reserve, and for which De Voedpadkloof is named.
