Cheerio Gardens in the Magoebaskloof near Haenertsburg is a destination for those looking for a ‘sightseeing’ spot to stop and stretch legs while driving the R71 to or from Tzaneen and the Kruger Park, as well as for those looking for a longer stay for some excellent trout fly-fishing in an area famous for its healthy well stocked dams and rivers.
Cheerio Gardens offers fly-fishing on three dams on the property as well as on another privately owned property on the Letaba River – just 20 mins drive away. Beginners are catered for, rods can be hired and flies purchased at Cheerio Gardens. Accommodation is available at the Lodge. Cheerio is geared toward families and groups and offers other activities in the beautiful Magoebaskloof area while the boys catch dinner each day.
As a Magoebaskloof and Haenerstburg attraction, it’s so pretty, if you stop for lunch, you may well come back to stay or overnight on your way back from wherever.
Cheerio has a spectacular Garden and tea-garden and hosts the annual Spring Festival. In spring and summer, the blossoms and flowering trees around the dams, not to mention the overall beauty of the forested Magoebaskloof, will help create a visually astounding fly-fishing experience that is sure to be distinctly unique…as well as full of catches.

Getting there: Cheerio Gardens is located on the R71 just outside of Tzaneen and near the start of the ‘drop’ down the the Limpopo lowveld through the Magoebaskloof.
