Hiking the Cederberg Heritage Route – Slackpacking

The magnificent Wolfberg Arch seen on the Cederberg Heritage RouteThe Cederberg is one of South Africa’s top hiking areas, offering unrivalled scenery and unique terrain.

The Cederberg offers some of the best slackpacking trails in all of South Africa, in a network of trails varying between 4 and 5 days in length. Most of the hiking on the route is not very challenging, and time is always set aside on the walks for tea and lunch stops, photography, swimming and other activities.

All of the trails include spectacular mountain scenery, interesting rock-art sites and the chance to ride on a traditional Cederberg donkey cart. Hikers are provided with picnic-lunch packs at the start of each day and need only bring a daypack containing items needed during the day, as overnight luggage is transported from one overnight stop to the next.
