Bulwer Paragliding and Hang Gliding, Natal Midlands
Bulwer is known as one of South Africa’s top paragliding and hang gliding sites, attracting both local and international pilots from around the globe. The conditions are excellent year round, offering fliers plenty of opportunity to take advantage of its multi – level flying possibilities. Spacious take off and safe landing sites, with consistent flying conditions and on-hand local expertise, in both flying disciplines, make this a must-fly spot for everyone hooked on free flying, from beginner to advanced cross country and competition level pilots.
Free flying is in harmony with beautiful nature, and whether you are seeking a burst of adrenaline yourself or are happy just to watch the pilots take off, you will enjoy the drive up to the top of the Amahaqwa mountain, 1840 metres above sea level. In spring and summer the grassland is ablaze with rare and beautiful wild flowers, giant protea bushes and butterflies, and the views over the Bulwer conservancy of indigenous forests are quite breath-taking.
If you are more adventurous still, you can take a 15-20 minute paragliding tandem flight with ex Protea pilot Hans Fokkens, and maybe encounter some Cape Vultures, Jackal Buzzards, and Black and Long Crested Eagles in the air.

To get to Bulwer: From the N3, take the R617 off-ramp for Southern Berg/Underberg. Travel towards Underberg for 74kms to Bulwer Village.
To get to Bulwer Hang Gliding: Just before the village on Howick side, there is a little dust road on the left; drive for 200 metres and you will see a gate with the Bulwer Hang Gliding sign on it.
To get to Wild Sky Paragliding: Drive through the village until you get to the Engen Garage on your right. There will be a sign to Wild Sky on your right. Turn down the road, take a left, and carry on to the dead end where you will find the lodge.
