Bloupunt Hiking Trail, Montagu

Bloupunt Hiking Trail MontaguThe Bloupunt hiking trail is a circular day hike of  5 to 9 hours and starts with a 1km straight up section. In total the hike is 15.6km and will be most enjoyed by fit hikers. It is rated as difficult and is pretty tough on the knees, but the views from the top will make it very worthwhile. The silence is awe-inspiring letting you experience the sounds of insects and birds. The mountain is covered in beautiful fynbos and fragrant smelling herbs in the wet places.

Make sure you carry plenty to drink. It can get very hot on the trail and there are long stretches without water. Keep an eye open for snakes on the path during the summer months.

The waterfalls are really worth a visit and there is plenty of opportunity for a swim, especially on the way down.

There are also other things to do in the Montagu Mountain Reserve. There are place for picnics and braai. There are two houses where you can stay in the nature reserve. In total there are 3 hiking trails in the reserve. The other two trails are the Badskloof trail which is 2,2 km and the Cogmanskloof trail which is 12,1 km long.
