Balgowan, in the Natal Midlands, forms part of the “KwaZulu-Natal Birding Route” – a Bird Watching paradise. This route consists of 13 sites in total, 3 of which can be found in the town of Balgowan.
From Wetlands and grasslands to the Mist-belt Forests – a number of Bird species, including the African Fish Eagle, Half-coloured Kingfisher, Olive Bush Shrike, Narina Trogon and the Grass Owl, to name a few, can be viewed in Balgowan.
One of the finest locations for bird-watching in the Balgowan area is Beacon Vlei Guest Farm, just off the Currys Post turn off.
