Avalencia Wine from Rottcher Wineries, White River
Rottcher Wineries in White River, Mpumalanga have taken advantage of the area’s prime production of oranges to make a truly unique wine. As its name suggests, ‘Avalencia’ Wine is made from the Valencia Oranges that are grown so successfully in the hot, well-irrigated and fertile Crocodile River Valley around White River and Nelspruit.
Rottcher’s Orange Wine has been a ‘hallmark’ of the area for over 50 years. The sweet, juicy Valencia oranges are fermented ‘in the old fashioned way’ to produce a sweet ‘wine’ with 14.5% alcohol that can be enjoyed as an alternative to sherry, port or other dessert wines. It is also delicious in a spritzer – not to mention the appeal of the translucent orange colour.

Getting there: The Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre is situated a few km’s outside of White River on the R40 en-route to Hazyview and the Kruger National Park.
